The Playhouse Company is offering a fabulous fun-filled arts activity day for kids aged between 4 and 12 years old on Saturday, 11 August as part of the 16th annual South African Women’s Arts Festival. The day will include pottery, drumming and creative movement workshops, as well as an exciting adventurous children’s production, Dr Pocket’s Ocean Commotion, and finish off with a wonderful Playhouse Parade all the way from the Loft to the Grand Foyer.
Clowns, balloon shapers and face painters will also be around for the duration of the day to entertain the kids between the workshops. The schedule of activities is coordinated by well-known children’s theatre practitioners Gisele Turner and Adi Paxton, aka Cherry the Clown. Sculptress and ceramicist, Wendy Nell conducts the pottery workshops, Drum Kids will be offering a drum workshop and the children can also look forward to an exciting Creative Movement Workshop. Each workshop is age appropriate, with the children being divided into two groups of 4-8 years of age and 9-12 years of age.
Expect to meet Dilly, Mr Fish and a few other favourite clown friends who will assist with moving the children between venues as well as telling stories, shaping balloons and generally keeping kids that have finished with activities engaged and entertained. After the morning workshops, there will be a healthy snack lunch, before the participants move up to the Loft to enjoy the show. Dr Gcina Mhlope will then conduct a poetry session before everyone participates in the Playhouse Parade; a wonderful way to finish off a wonderful day.
Parents are advised that booking by 26 July 2012 is essential as the workshops are free and the places are limited to 30 participants per group i.e. 60 children in total. Registration will take place in Grand Foyer from 9:30am to 10:00am, with the first workshops starting at 10:10am. Children need to wear comfortable clothes in which they can move and also get grubby while playing with clay. No food stuffs should be brought into the Playhouse: refreshments will be provided by the Playhouse Company. Children should be dropped off promptly at 9:30am and picked up at 3:30pm; an arm band with contact details on it will be attached to each child on registration.
