This Youth Day the Playhouse Grand Foyer will be a hive of activity as aspiring musicians, hip hop lovers and music experts mingle and discuss the nitty-gritty of day-to-day music business.
Hip Kulcha is an initiative hosted and funded by The Playhouse Company. It is designed to create a platform for artistic and cultural expression about issues that are important to the youth. On June 16, aspiring young people from all over the province of KwaZulu-Natal, hip hop artists and music lovers in general will not only receive valuable lessons from industry leaders but will be given an opportunity to showcase their talent.
The knowledge and practical skills imparted are intended to be useful well after the event – a prospect for social development and growth.
Activities will include speaking appearances by SAMRO/NORM representatives and representatives from the music industry. Topics will include publishing and copyright issues, beat making, independent music recording and releasing and many more.
Discussions and practical workshops will be followed by performances by EWOK, and SAMA award-winning rap artist, Zakwe.
The Hip Kulcha programme starting at 9am on Saturday, 16 June 2012 is scheduled to coincide with National Youth Day commemorations and will end at 5pm.
