If you’re a lover of maskandi music, you’ve just got to be at the Playhouse on 20 December.
That’s when fans of this popular brand of Zulu folk music will be flocking to the Maskandi Concert, featuring some of the best known talent in this indigenous genre. The concert runs from 10am to 3pm and will include such household names as Phuz’ekhemisi, Madala Kunene, Ezikabhaka, Madosini and Vumile Mngoma. Phuz’ekhemisi, who needs little introduction to local music aficionados, has taken his music to several countries in Europe, exposing the maskandi style to a global audience. In 2002, he was one of the African acts invited to perform at the closing celebrations for the Soccer World Cup in Japan. Madala Kunene has performed to audiences around the world and often shares the stage with great names such as the inimitable Busi Mhlongo.
The concert runs from 10am and will include such household names as Phuz’ekhemisi, Madala Kunene,m Ezikabhaka, Madosini, Vumile Mngoma and Ngizwe Mchunu.
