If you’re looking for a piece of typical, home-grown theatre, then Hayani is for you.
In fact, the word hayani means “home” in tshiVenda. This original work, crafted and performed by the formidable creative pairing of Atandwa Kani and Nat Ramabulana, was named Best New South African Script at Gauteng’s annual Naledi Theatre Awards. The play explores notions of “home”, identity and belonging by imaginatively tracking the journeys of two young men growing up in different parts of post-apartheid South Africa during the transition to democracy, and its aftermath.
