KwaZulu-Natal musicians, get your saxophones, guitars, pianos and tambourines ready! The Playhouse Company has just announced the dates for the auditions of both the 2017 Sundowner and the Test Driving the Arts programmes.
Over the years the Sundowner programme has become a regular, feature of entertainment in the city centre. The Playhouse is yet again pleased to announce we are looking forward to an even a more entertaining 2017 season.
If you do business or work in the city, The Playhouse invites you to find time to stop by and enjoy a Friday Sundowner or you will be missing out on an opportunity to chill after work as you look forward to a deserved rest with the long week behind you. Simply, The Playhouse is doing its bit to support the city’s artistic core across race and gender as we believe artists and musicians are an essential part of the rhythm and energy of eThekwini.
Some of the names featured on the current programme include well-known stars such as the legendary Madala Kunene, Jazz greats Melvin Peters, Barney Bophela and Philani Ngidi, Daniel dos Reis and Thobeka Langa.
If you fancy being counted alongside these names, auditions for the 2017 Sundowners programme will be held at The Playhouse on 25 November 2016.
Meanwhile, upcoming artists will have a second bite at the cherry being given an opportunity to showcase their talent in the Test Driving the Arts sessions. The Playhouse Company’s Test Driving the Arts programme showcases arts practitioners by providing space during lunch time shows in the City.
Aimed largely at the younger viewer, the Testing Driving the Arts programme includes poetry and musical performances across a wide ranging number of genres. This means that whether you are an upcoming Jazz, Maskandi, Gospel, Kwaito, Afro Reggae, Imfene, Pantsula, or Hip Hop artist, here is a chance to showcase your skills in a public space.
