Popular jazz band, 5th Season, will perform in The Playhouse Company’s SUNDOWNERS concert in the Playhouse coffee shop on Friday 18 December 2015 from 17h00.

Having met whilst studying jazz & popular music at UKZN in 2010, founder members of the band, brothers Devon Hore and Brayden Hore (drummer and bassist) teamed up with talented guitarist Mthunzi Mchunu (Mo). The trio, with their shared passion for Ballads, Swing, Smooth & African jazz, as well as commercial/pop with a jazz element, have establishing themselves as a go-to-band in KZN under the name 5TH SEASON (meaning an exciting and new season in music), and have travelled the province since, exposing their talents at various functions consisting of mainly private functions, corporate events & weddings.

The trio has expanded its musical offering to include the extremely versatile vocalist Janice Joseph, also a product of UKZN. Janice’s voice compliments the talents of the musicians & in short, completes 5TH SEASON as a band.

5th Season recently launched their debut album, Symmetry, which, the band says, “is a blend of re-arrangements of jazz standards and original compositions … [for] the more discerning music lover.”

Also on the bill for the evening’s extremely popular poetry slot are poets Koleka Putuma, Pearl Gatsheni, Vusúmuzi Phakathi and Langelihle Maniza Khuzwayo.

The Playhouse Company’s free SUNDOWNERS series of concerts give eThekwini CBD workers an opportunity to start their weekend off the entertaining way with music, poetry and much more, all for free.

Playhouse patrons receive discounted parking at the Royal Hotel Parkade and at the Albany Grove Parkade. The Playhouse coffee shop offers a variety of light meals and drinks, while the Playhouse bar is open for every performance.
